In this article is the video from Rocca Calascio made on December 7, 2025. 2025 was definitely the year of ‘ Abruzzo for me, I came there 3 times. I say this especially to foreign readers, but also to Italians, over tourism in certain cities is a crime, as my country has so many wonderful and less crowded areas.

And I say nothing about the food! still authentic as well as economically honest.

Weekend in L’Aquila and surroundings

I was based in L’ Aquila, where I had incredibly never been. Actually the reason was also the terrible earthquake that destroyed a lot in 2009 and caused as many as 309 casualties .

There are still several buildings boarded up and many construction sites, but the city is more than alive. The main monuments have been renovated, including the incredible 99 Spouts fountain seen in the following video.

The video from Rocca Calascio

I shot this one at the top of Rocca Calascio, in front of the entrance, and you can see the surrounding valleys, and the whitewashed peaks of the Apennines, particularly Majella and finally Gran Sasso.

Frankly, I was hoping to meet Adso with his mentor, or at least Ladyhavke, none of that. For the non-cinephiles, the joke is a reminder that Rocca Calascio has been used as a set for many films, including the memorable The Name of the Rose with Sean Connery.

After the video from Rocca Calascio, I also took this photo from a loophole of the fortress, from which you can see the Corno Grande of Gran Sasso
It looks like a frame instead it is a slit from which you can see the Corno grande of the Gran sasso Also from Rocca Calascio which is in evidence
