The drive on the Great Ocean road is considered one of the most spectacular in the world, but first there was to visit Melbourne and to finally spend some time with my brother.
An update on my face book page:
I am an eyewitness that they have seals, whales, crocodiles, sharks, wallabies and all kinds of feathered creatures here, but two Viroli together had never seen them until now.

Visiting Melbourne
Melbourne is very pretty, despite being modern it is also picturesque in its own way on the riverfront. It is very green and human scale; unthinkable for us a city of 5 million people so tidy and with free (downtown) public transportation.

My brother and I had been seeing each other forever, and at the time we thought who knows when it would happen again, given the distance and his conviction to stay there. Then he went back to Europe instead, and now we see each other quite a bit. I slept at his place, in a typical migrant worker’s house, and for me staying there for two nights was also fun. The kitchen floor had an obvious slope. At night on my way to the bathroom I passed one of his roommates who was creepy to say the least. But I did not see the 2 mysterious junkie inhabitants of the little tin house in the backyard.

Food experiences in Australia
He was a pizza maker, and I could not resist going to eat at his place, even though it is rare to eat Italian abroad. It was interesting, I experienced that contrary to what was once thought, you can also eat well and something very close to what you might eat at home (now products travel everywhere). At the same time certain dishes are also varied to follow the taste of the place and for example I found the pizza good but bland, almost sweet compared to our standards.
About the food, everything is very expensive, and practically alone I went very little to the restaurant. Whereas with my brother one night we had an excellent steak (which we paid an arm and a leg for). Another we indulged in kangaroo, which made me stay up all night because it danced on my stomach for hours.

Driving on the great ocean road, gluttony of kangaroos
The Great Ocean Road should be traveled by day. At night it is dangerous for the many animals that may cross, and then you would not see the succession of endless beaches; sheer cliffs; lush forests and endless spaces.

Speaking of kangaroos, I also caught one with little one in the pouch. I don’t post it because it came out too grainy.

I took it in Warrnambool, the last beautiful stop. Memorable as well for my brother who in the 6 1/2 years there, the little he saw was almost all concentrated in the days with me. It is a park around 2 extinct volcanoes that are now ponds. In that 2-hour walk we didn’t meet any other people, but we did see a lot of koalas, wallabies and kangaroos. The former stand still on the eucalypts and it is normal to be able to even approach them, but the latter, if in the wild, usually keep away from humans.
One of the most famous stops is Port Campbell National Park, which boasts some truly spectacular rock formations, including the highly photographed 12 Apostles, which is no longer 12 (featured).

Having the last breakfast in the B&B, the news said that in Adelaide, not far from us, it was snowing. Contrary to what one imagines, it is cold in Australia in their winter and south; with direct disturbances from Antarctica.
