I hadn’t slept in a barrel until March 2026. It was on the occasion of one of my somewhat crazy weekends to break up the work weeks, so many things in a short time, but by organizing well with a close-knit friend it went well.

The stages we touched on:

Vipiteno (dinner and walk with purchase of apple strudel)
Stop at the Loacker store in Brenner.
Innsbruck (with downtown tour)
Bressanone (for the cathedral)
Merano (for the spa and the center)

The video of sleeping in a barrel

Below is the video shot in the barrel area at the campsite near Innsbruck. The bathroom is not far away and the barrels are large and also very hot. Highlighted is the photo with the barrels lit up at night. The campsite is on the banks of a small lake in the middle of the woods. All good except for the unreasonably expensive breakfast!

Below is a video shot in Innsbruck, where you can see snow-capped mountains above the woods on the Inn River, but also lots of people, ready to enjoy the first sunshine. I can say I was lucky to have caught the perfect weekend; snow on the mountains, but clean roads, passing both people in shorts and skiers returning from the slopes.
