Italiano (Italian)
Going up Stromboli had been a longtime fixture of mine, so much so that I went a little crazy to do it.
To go up (and down), it also takes a fairly strenuous hike.
The somewhat crazy long weekend developed as follows:
Friday, evening in Palermo.
Saturday morning, train to Milazzo and then ferry to Stromboli.
Saturday afternoon, with guide, tour to climb Stromboli at sunset and return with darkness. But more about the guide in another article.
Sunday tour, also very food and wine tour of the town of Stromboli. Being in pairs, the sharing of culinary wonders, had a nice space.
Finally on Monday I will return using the same means.
Climb the Stromboli the video
This is the almost live video I took from the closest point to the crater that you can get to. You can clearly see the soldified lava flow coming down to the sea. This is also the point from which we can clearly see the explosions, which instead can be heard continuously from all over the island. This is one of the few continuously active volcanoes in the world. There are about an average of 300 explosions per day, yet they cannot be seen from the small town. There are no cars on the island, you get around on foot or by tuc tuc. Finally between the two settlements, the other being Ginostra, one moves only by sea.
In this link you can learn more about what is one of Italy’s 4 active volcanoes.
