For the last part of the trip I kept my first naturist camping experience.

From the mainland on the Island of Krk you arrive by an extraordinary bridge. I won’t tell you about the succession of spectacular landscapes. While the town of the same name, (like the others) is a typical seaside village that you can get around in ten minutes. After checking out some beaches that had been pointed out to me and having to stop for a super storm before a steep descent full of hairpin bends, I arrived at the campsite. Truth be told, I live near a famous naturist beach, and I was not prejudiced, but it simply had never happened.

When I looked for accommodations I had a hard time finding anything cheap; it was my intention to do some camping anyway. In particular, on the two islands I had chosen out of the many, also to make practical sense of my itinerary, in which there was the dea of not doing Plitvice during a weekend. In many campgrounds it was not possible to make reservations except for several days. I probably could have shown up even at the last minute, but I didn’t want to risk it and found only one that accepted reservations for one night in Krk; the fact that it was also for naturists I saw as a positive: new experience, yay!

Would I do the naturist camping experience again? Why not!!!

What I enjoyed most were the walks in the countryside meeting almost no one

Aside from peas and other things in the wind, I must say that in the end what makes this place particularly significant is that it is in a beautiful pine forest slightly downhill from the sea, with small beaches. The restaurant was also excellent, in terms of food, price, friendliness and view of the sea at sunset.

The first more magnum naked coffee of my life was strange, but briefly, I got used to it right away, and I expected to feel in a more unusual situation. All in all, in the naturist camping experience I found nothing special about it, I might do it again, but I wouldn’t seek it out on purpose, of course it is a nice convenience to be able to go to the shower without too much stuff on you, and if you take a bath you don’t have to worry about your swimsuit drying!

In this link is a nice article that explains more about this world.

Sheep and cicadas

The top of the trip was random. The islands are crisscrossed by so many beautiful trails, which of course have magnificent views. But most of all they give the opportunity to immerse oneself in the colors and smells of the Mediterranean scrub. It would be a good idea to do them in spring or fall. They get pretty hot, since they start at sea level and there are steep and exposed climbs.

I took the ferry to the nearby island of Cres and immediately went to the tourist information center in the town of the same name to ask if they had a map of the trails. They told me to look on the Internet.

These walks offer continuous glimpses of the sea and surrounding islands

Climbing up the hill, with views of the Gulf of Cres, the sea, other islands and the mainland, I climbed into an olive grove with centuries-old trees. It was a thematic trail with explanatory tables, telling about the cultivation of olives and the fine oil and everything that goes around it.

In addition to the view, the special features of the area are the network of dry stone walls (created over the centuries to demarcate the land, but first to create space for crops) and the sheep that are encountered freely.

Since it is a difficult terrain to cultivate, they found that sheep are perfect workers, fertilizing and eating the weeds. It was a beautiful walk, and for four hours I did not encounter a human being. The picnic, leaning against a giant fig tree, was also super. The blue sea on one side; green olive trees everywhere; a few sheep and a deafening background of chirping cicadas.

Mediterranean bush walks

Cres and Lošinj are now 2 separate islands, connected by a small bridge, because they were once a single island and the Romans created a channel by cutting the narrowest point. After the ‘naturist camping experience, I slept 2 nights in a campsite for clothed people. It was at the beginning of Lošinj, where I didn’t like the beach so much because it had a lot of concrete. But it was very convenient because it was attached to the small town of Neresine where I found a very good restaurant. What I liked most about those two days (besides the always wonderful street views), was the walk along the sea from Veli Lošinj with wonderful views.
