When I was young, I was skeptical of modern cities; they seemed cold and all the same to me. Over time, I\u2019ve learned that this isn\u2019t necessarily the case. Singapore is perhaps the prime example of a modern, diverse, and decidedly green city. At the same time, it\u2019s extremely livable, orderly, and safe. <\/p>\n\n

For centuries, the city<\/a> has been a major port, so there was no shortage of wealth. With the independence it gained after the war, that wealth has obviously increased considerably. As in many similar places, alongside so much wealth\u2014perhaps even among the citizens themselves\u2014I imagine there is also a great deal of exploitation of those who perform the simplest tasks and of immigrant workers. <\/p>\n\n
