My interesting acquaintances while traveling often included other travelers. Sometimes even people living in the place I visited and even immigrants. Meeting expats<\/strong> in Miami was the most interesting thing about my days there. I had also gone there to visit my friend Tania, who introduced me to both her mom and sister and their friends with whom I had a good time. <\/em><\/p>\n\n

However, I did not meet the two protagonists of the famous TV show Miami vice, as I recreated with artificial intelligence in the featured photo. This was one of the reports I wrote via email I made on my solo<\/strong> trip to the U.S. in 2004. <\/em><\/p>\n\n

In addition to interesting acquaintances on the road, Miami<\/h2>\n\n

The premise is that I think it is very difficult to be in realities as different as I was on this trip, and Miami <\/strong>is so different from everything else. Here, as in all hyper-touristy seaside cities, there are the beachfront hotels\/palaces (still an eyesore, but more acceptable than in other places), several trendy clubs, a bunch of restaurants (many Italian) and a lot of people. But what makes this city special, more than what man has done, is what nature has given it. <\/p>\n\n

The sea is beautiful, the water crystal clear and very warm, the beach huge, the vegetation lush, there is a lot of greenery, we are in the tropics and it is always hot, so there is always tourism. Then man put there the stores, discos, hotels, pubs and restaurants, very nice, but there is no comparison with everything else. <\/p>\n\n

Aside from the bars the clubs and the tourist area, I really liked the residential area. Miami beach is a ‘little island next to Miami city and there is an architecturally very original neighborhood with colorful houses designed with the art d’eco style. <\/p>\n\n

Translated is that they are original houses! don’t ask me for an architectural description!<\/p>\n\n

The difficult arrival in Miami<\/h2>\n\n

Saturday was quite a troubled day with lots of setbacks, right from the morning it was looking really bad…only around midnight there was a turnaround, and in the end I can say I had the most enjoyable evening of the trip. <\/p>\n\n

The station in Orlando (population 1.5 million) is far inferior to the one in Cervia, embarrassingly so. There are barely 2 platforms, no refreshment facilities of any kind. The train was not coming and no one said anything. After 55 minutes of waiting in asphyxiating heat (in the waiting room we were chattering our teeth), message from the loudspeaker: the train to Miami is delayed (but it goes…) in a while it arrives….<\/em> I found out that that train (contrary to what the ticket agent told me) was also passing through the small town where I was staying; thus, wasted $35 cab fare; in short, American railroads are a disaster. <\/p>\n\n

Evening in Miami<\/h2>\n\n

Arrived in Miami resoundingly late skipping the afternoon outing with Tania, the expat in Miami my friend with whom we will meet after dinner. My favorite Luxembourger with her very funny half-Romagna, half-French accent proposed an outing with her friends who are really nice. Almost all of them are Italian, and among them stands out the legendary Pina! a peppery little one, from Pescara, born in Peru who has been living in Miami for 10 years. <\/p>\n\n

All easy-going people, we toured a few clubs. We stayed mostly in a kind of disco pub, outdoors practically on the beach, with a pool in between. If you lifted your head up between the palm trees a beautiful starry sky, but especially the air coming in from the ocean, really nice. Then we tried to get into a couple of other places without luck. Here if the place is full they won’t let you in, and for them it is full when it is half empty at our place. I ended up doing 3, and I had a really good time. But no Miami Vice<\/a> scenes. <\/p>\n\n

Interesting knowledge on the road: the parakeet expert<\/h2>\n\n

Among the encounters in Miami worth remembering was not only the one with Tania and her world.<\/p>\n\n

Yesterday morning I took a little trip to the beach. I splashed around in the ocean waves, and for me, who hasn’t been swimming in the Mediterranean for a few years, it was a good thing. I dusted off all the silly little games I used to play as a kid with the waves when I was in the water half days. <\/p>\n\n

Then I walked the length and breadth of Miami beach. Really beautiful, as already mentioned because of the houses and the view of the beach and the ocean, the palm trees. But also because, in addition to the ever-present pigeons and seagulls, parakeets (parakeets) flutter freely here. <\/p>\n\n

I stopped at a bench to chat with a gentleman originally from Pennsylvania. He, too, is used to seeing them only in cages. We observed the bustling comings and goings from a palm tree where there were some nests. He told me that a lady comes by every morning to drop off their food and they gather about 50 of them. <\/p>\n\n

I told him that we had a small herd at home. The progenitors were Cleo and Paolina and the first born in the Viroli household was one named Garibaldi by first name and Giuseppe by last name, we had 15. They died of unknown causes. <\/p>\n\n

Greetings and links<\/h2>\n\n

I am glad that Janez Bamboo came back even slimmed down and relaxed. But he is dastardly if in New Orleans at night he did not leave the hostel. For that matter, I am because here I did not go to the Key West: so I have an excuse to return. <\/p>\n\n
