Video of Matera by night

Matera seen at night, with the houses and churches lit up and arranged on a slope, looks like a nativity scene

This post is also available in: Italiano (Italian)

These videos of Matera by night were shot during the Christmas season of 2025, but this is my third time here and I must say it is always beautiful. The pictures do not render, it looks like being in a nativity scene. Unfortunately, the weekend ended with an unpleasant incident, fortunately not serious.

Two videos of Matera by night

This is the first one taken from the viewpoint in Vittorio Veneto Square.

This video of Matera, on the other hand, is shot in Piazza Duomo, so you can also see the cathedral, which is from the 1200s.

Weekend with Matera by night and other stops

As a couple with a friend, in addition to Matera toured far and wide, we popped into some interesting villages and smaller towns that were more or less on the way. Being in a car we were also able to admire the splendid views that sunny winter days can give, with blue sea, snow-capped mountains and gentle valleys. Of course, we also had great food and drink.

Following are the stages:

  • Lucera (with the Swabian-Angevin fortress)
  • Grassano (one of Carlo Levi ‘s places of exile )
  • Irsina (arriving there via a remote and deserted road)
  • Sant’Agata di Puglia (another village with a castle and wonderful views)
  • Chieti (with car fight I explain below)
Matera seen by day with preparations for the Stations of the Cross are two masked actors. Behind the houses and rocks of the city
But Matera is also beautiful by day Here were actors preparing for the Stations of the Cross being staged

Argument with motorist

In Chieti, after a stroll and a quick lunch I happen upon an event fortunately very unusual to me. But one that goes under the macro topic of people’s ignorance, which is becoming more and more extensive.

I had the car parked in herringbone, we had been up for a few seconds, and I had already engaged reverse, when I saw from the mirror first a roadside assistance truck and then a series of cars pass by. Once the procession was over, I started the reverse, which was immediately interrupted.

Wrongly, I had not looked at the other mirror as well, and I had not noticed that the truck had stopped right behind me. The parking beacon had not alerted me because only the rearmost (tallest) part was in the path of the edge of my car (to be precise, the headlight).

As I was going very slowly, the damage, only to my car, was slight.

Once we got out, without my friend and I opening our mouths, the owner of the truck verbally assaulted us, this was more or less the incredible dialogue:

But where does it go, if there was a person he would have killed her.

Like where do I go, she had to stop right behind me while I was maneuvering ?

I had been there for 5 minutes (CLAMORIOUS LIE, OBVIOUSLY I WOULD HAVE SEEN IT IF IT HAD BEEN THERE ON MY ARRIVAL).

At that point I realized that it was wasted time, since there was no hope for a polite and mature confrontation, I tried to keep it short. Among other things, at the threat of calling the police and then asking for insurance damages, he also shot a fantastic:

I buy everything here if I want to.

Panorama seen from Sant'Agata di Puglia, from which one can see the Tavoliere plain, in the background the Adriatic Sea and the Gargano highlands, with scattered dozens of wind turbines
Posting that they are indispensable I like wind turbines in certain views Here from SantAgata you can also see the Gargano in addition to the Tavoliere
