Italiano (Italian)
Seeing animals in Australia is very common. Outside the city, starting in the Queensland region I really got into the Australian nature. I took many beautiful walks with encounters with animals but also plants I had never seen and fabulous views of the Ocean.
I took the featured photo near Byron bay, at the easternmost point Of Australia. The place was named after the father (explorer) of the more famous writer Lord Byron.
Also very nice were the two tours. The first was a (photographic) whaling tour. I had been dreaming of doing this ever since I read Moby Dick; we saw a lot of them but it may have been because we could not get close and because we did not happen to see any emerge jumping out of the water, it was less exciting than expected. While it was very exciting the English girl sitting next to me who threw up all her breakfast because of the rough sea and the swerves we made to follow the cetacean emergencies.

Seeing animals in Australia, but the not the dingoes
Fraser Island is a truly incredible place, a sand island created over thousands of years by wind and ocean, where there is a lake with an unreal color, sand dunes tens of meters high, and a rain forest. Also, it had not occurred to me to be on an off-road bus (4×4) and cross on the shoreline of a beach a landing plane.
The island is full of signs urging people to be careful never to stay away from children; apparently the dingoes eat them.

Couchsurfers in Brisbane
Brisbane does not offer much; it is the classic modern city with lots of skyscrapers. But I liked it and had the opportunity to meet someone who became important. I chose it because it was halfway between the Gold coast to the south and Fraser Island to the north, as well as having an airport that I used for the domestic flight north.
I had signed up for the Couchsurfing platform to sleep for free sometime on a very expensive trip, but also to make acquaintances. Couchsurfing connects those who want to host with those who want to be hosted, but the point would be mostly to connect people, perhaps with affinity and interest in travel.
Boyfriend for an evening in Brisbane
My future Australian friend could not host me. But I liked the idea of spending an evening, which turned out to be hilarious. After going around the bars, around 2 o’clock we met her niece. I was introduced as: He is my boyfriend for tonight, very serenely and as if it was the most normal thing in the world to the face of our well-meaning.
We talked a lot about how different they are from us Europeans and particularly from Italians. Especially those who were born and raised in a small village on the ocean whose nearest town is perhaps 50 kilometers away. I greeted her unconvinced that I would see her again and instead we had a wonderful vacation a few months later and we are still in touch to this day.
