I was able to visit Mostar and the bridge after a 3 1/2 hour bus ride through the spectacular mountains and forests of Bosnia – Herzegovina. As soon as I arrived, the lady who was hosting me greeted me with figs picked from a nearby tree and a big slice of super creamy cake. With the stifling heat, if it had been up to me I would have preferred something else, but I must say it was delicious.
In this article I recount my days in Bosnia in more detail.
Mostar and the bridge now super touristy
It is amazing to think that Mostar, now so alive and full of tourists, 30 years ago was in the midst of a terrible war, considered among the bloodiest.
The bridge was gone and there was a lot of shooting. Now they’ve rebuilt, it’s back to a very touristy place, but they’ve left evidence of what happened. The warning would be that it can happen again.
This trip to the Balkans will be nine days, solo and using public transportation. I have already been to Sarajevo, where I will return tomorrow for a more in-depth visit.
This video in which you can see Mostar and the bridge, I shot it before dinner, it renders more than the one at night, and it is taken from another bridge.
In this link there is a hint of what happened here during the civil war in eastern Yugoslavia.
Bosnia – Herzegovina is the 62nd country I visit!
